jacksonville helps
I'm A Star servant leaders launched Jacksonville HELPS (Homeless Students Empowered through Leadership, Partnerships & Service) in 2012, after learning that thousands of peers right in their classrooms are suffering in silence with no place to call home. Currently, there are 3000+ homeless students in Duval County Public Schools.
I'm A Star teens brainstormed on a creative fundraiser to raise money for their homeless peers by organizing a 5K, TV telethon and Celebrity Basketball Game. To their surprise, the Jacksonville community helped, donating $20,000+ in the first year.
Nearly eight years later, the Celebrity Basketball Game has become an anticipated event, raising $96,500, along with public and private donations.
Celebrities play high school basketball all stars in this annual match-up, which has drawn the attention of NBA Hall of Famer & Lakers' President Magic Johnson, Comedian/Recording Artist Lil Duval and U.S Gold Medalist Simone Biles.
This year's game will take place September 22, 2018, 6:00 p.m. at Paxon School For Advanced Studies.
